An absolutely stunning Smiths Ship’s Clock from around 1940/50. This clock has been professionally converted to run from a quality German Quartz movement (silent, accurate, maintenance free). The time of day is altered by simply turning the MINUTE hand after opening the front door. This stunning clock has eye catching bevelled glass covering the dial and hands. The clock’s dial is untouched and shows years of patina and a character that is impossible to reproduce. This is NOT a reproduction – it is a 1950’s clock that has been polished, cleaned and converted to battery power. This clock could be easily mounted using the 4 screw holes in the bronze case to a nice piece of oak or mahogany.
The small subsidiary seconds hand is cosmetic only – it does not turn. The advance and retard lever, likewise – false for originality. I have also install a solid brass “fake” winder to keep the clock looking as it did 80 years ago.
As with all my clocks – this is unique – no two clocks are ever the same.
NOTE : to change the battery (once every 4 years or so) – simply remove the 4 screw holding the dial in the case and lift the dial out to give access to the battery and movement. VERY EASY – no skill required.
