This original 1950s Smiths Bakelite Station Clock has been professionally restored and sympathetically converted to modern battery operation, preserving its distinctive mid-century character while making it practical for everyday use.
The warm brown Bakelite case remains true to the original design, giving the clock the unmistakable presence that made Smiths station clocks a staple of British public buildings and workplaces. Great care has been taken throughout the restoration to respect the clock’s heritage while ensuring reliability and longevity.
Professional Battery Conversion
The original mains-powered mechanism has been expertly replaced with a high-quality Seiko quartz movement, powered by a single AA battery. This conversion eliminates the need for fixed wiring while delivering dependable timekeeping suitable for modern homes and offices.
Importantly, the Seiko movement features sweep seconds, closely replicating the smooth, continuous motion of the original mains-driven clocks — not the ticking motion found in cheaper quartz conversions.
Original Components Preserved
Unlike many conversions on the market, this clock retains its original Smiths hands, carefully cleaned and refitted. These are not reproduction parts, ensuring the clock keeps its authentic period appearance.
Ready to Hang
A new wall hanging bracket has been fitted, allowing for safe, secure, and straightforward wall mounting. The clock is ready to display as soon as it arrives.
A Timeless Decorative Statement
With its bold dial, clear numerals, and classic industrial styling, this clock works equally well as:
