It’s a rewarding experience and can be performed relatively cheaply and without too much trouble. If you are CONVERTING a mechanical clock to battery there’s one thing that must be said – it’s highly unlikely that you will be able to re-use the original hands from the clock. Expect to use some modern reproduction hands – made especially for the modern quartz movements. Choosing a new AA Battery Clock Movement
Most people have access to Amazon one way or another. As such we have selected a small sample of good value quartz clock movements. Most of these come with several pairs of hands and mounting options. IMPORTANT – the main difference between several of these offerings is the DEPTH of the hand spindle. Some clocks have a solid wooden fascia with the dial pinned or bonded on top. For these clocks it will be necessary to use a deeper clock spindle. For slim dials – often just a sheet of thin metal – look for a shorter shaft. If you choose a mechanism with a shaft that is too short – you won’t be able to fit the hour hand as it will be to close to the dial. If you fit a movement with a shaft that is too long – the hands may rub on the clock glass.
